Americans: media brainwashed, or victims of post-traumatic stress disorder?

Last month I claimed that, based on what I knew about how the government (starting with WWI) hired advertizing firms to whoop up war hysteria, plus, using data in polls, such as the poll that claimed that 70% of the American public believed that Saddam Hussein ordered the 9-11 terrorist attacks DESPITE the fact that President Bush NEVER claimed that Hussein did such a thing (but, for political expediency, inimated that he did), most Americans were brainwashed by the media where the war on Iraq was concerned, and, I presume, on many other foreign and domestic policy issues.

That did NOT mean that the people who could not see through the Bush Administration lies (WMD, connections between Saddam and bin Laden, liberating the Iraqi people and so on) lack any responsibility for believing those lies or do not have the responsibility to check out the facts. I did not mean that the American people were blameless, particularly since 30% of the American people did NOT want war and did NOT believe Bush.

However, I will insist on claiming that, until the American people have an overwhelming desire to FINALLY want to know the truth--until the American people have finally had enough of politicians (whether Republican or Democrat or whatever) LIES and do something about it--we, the American people, will continue to allow the politicians (and others) to lie to us with impunity. It is simply too darned much of a hassle for most Americans to seek the truth in a time when most Americans struggle to make ends meet.

However, I have another theory BESIDES the possibility that we are brainwashed to explain why most Americans supprted such an immoral war on so little ground [and it is NOT because most Americans believe in "the rapture", which must be preceded by events in the Mid East that will "help" God to make up His mind, take out "the Christians", setting up Israel (His "chosen people") to fry (except for the 1/3 who will survive tribulation), as the "AntiChrist" takes over the Temple Mount]. It isn't that the US loves empire. No. It isn't that Americans want to "help" God along, for while "dispensationalism" is gaining some momentum, most Americans still go along with what the mainstream (except Baptist) churches' eschatology, which is "amillennial", not "premillennial". No. And it isn't because Americans love Dubya--I mean, what's not to like (except that he's a worse liar than Clinton)? No. And it isn't because Americans want to live in a fascist police state. No.
