Visualizing the Numbers (Part VI)

Now take a look at these examples:
  • 9 divided by 3 gives 3 with remainder 0.
  • 11 divided by 3 gives 3 with remainder 2.
In both these examples the quotient is an odd number. Thus, we subtract an odd number from the odd number. Obviously, the result is either zero as in the first example or an even number as in the second example.

So far we have seen how children could be helped in visualizing numbers from one to hundred and how the basic operations: viz. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; are performed on them. However, in real situations we always have to deal with numbers larger than these do. Therefore, we will have to find out some method of visualizing larger numbers as well and we will do it in the next article.
