Equivalent Fractions (IV)

We can now write down the obtained equivalent fraction here: 12/16 = 6/8 = ¾ and we can write down the procedure we have followed in obtaining them arithmetically as: 12 ÷ 2 / 16 ÷ 2 = 6 / 8 6 ÷ 2 / 8 ÷ 2 = 3 / 4 Thus, we can get simpler fractions from the complicated fractions by the process of division. Here, we are actually using a property of division covered in the article "Properties of division" . According to this property, whatever division operation is carried out on the dividend (numerator), if it is compensated by the same operation on the divisor (denominator), the quotient remains unchanged.
