Strength of Web Communication

I am really happy to note that there are many people visiting my pages. Only thing that makes me little uncomfortable is that I am not getting many reactions from my readers in terms of rating my articles or sending me some opinion by way of participating in the discussions. The section on mass communication must incite those reading about it to be more forth coming. We must communicate with each other in order to have a better understanding of things around us.

I know that the problem of one way communication is in built in all kinds of Mass Communication. But the mass communication on web is quite different from that in Public speaking, Newspapers, Radio and Television where the speaker, writer and broadcaster have to decide about their audiences before constructing the messages. The audiences too have very little freedom. They can select the messages they want to receive. But it becomes difficult to participate in the communication process while the communication takes place.

The only significant change Web communication has brought in mass communication is that it has made it more interactive and more democratic. It allows the reader to express himself/herself while going through a message that is meant for an undecided mass of audience. It allows the writer to transcend the boundaries of rigid segmentation of its readers, listeners or viewers. The whole purpose of writing on web is defeated if a writer does not provoke his readers to accept, reject or opine in any other manner on the subject he/she is dealing with. It is in this perspective that I would like my readers to come up with appreciation, criticism, alternate viewpoints as that is the soul of communication through web.

I have many more topics to talk about. Many more questions to ask. But I would not be able to do a successful writing till I get the response from my readers. Recently I have also put up a poll in my topic to get your opinion. It is about the reading habits of netsurfers. I have asked you about the number of web news sites you visit. I have got some responses, but they are not enough.

So friends, this month’s article is only an attempt to make communication more meaningful and democratic. I hope we would come closer to each other by discussing the subjects and we would experience the strength of web communication. I would be changing the format of my writing too from next month in order to make the topic more interesting and live. I hope you will be with me while I experiment with the power of web communication!
