Be it football or basketball, with half-time, comes performances with the band. Contrary to popular belief, performing with your band can be an extremely special opportunity for dancers, cheerleaders, and mascots alike. There's the increased performance time, a change of style, and the chance to work, play and bond!

So why do bands get such a bum rap? All too often all components of the spirit industry are thrown into the mix together, without having the opportunity to create relationships So what can you do to ensure that you. as a mascot can have a successful performance season with the band? Read on to find out...

Meet with your Band Director

Band directors are often busy people. Therefore, schedule a time with him/her to get to know one another and to discover each other's plans and goals for the season. Perhaps the director plans on having the band perform only from the sidelines while you dream of marching and maneuvering with the band on the field! Now is a great time to iron out those differences and reach a common goal!

Make Band Arrangements...together!

Be proactive and assist the director with the choice of music the spring before. If you prefer to choose arrangements from routines you have learned at MASCOT camp, decide as soon as the camp music is available so you can order the music promptly for the director!

Rehearse Frequently with the Band

Practicing frequently together eliminates any problems that may exist! Perhaps you would like to intermingle with the band as they play, while that is the director's pet peeve! Remember, "Live" is better than Memorex!

Work as a Unified Team

You can complement each other for a captivating and energetic half-time show. Advocate the show as a unified team effort Choreograph together so that each other's movements accent the others. . Unity is the best approach to success!

Working together, sharing dreams and goals, and having a positive attitude all add up to one strong foundation--one that will indubitably lead to a successful half-time performance season!
