Mascot costumes are far from being inexpensive. An inexpensive costume is usually in the $700-800 range. Sure this doesn't sound like a lot to raise when you have a whole cheerleading squad raising money; but when you're fundraising as a solo project, the amount can seem quite monstrous!
Of course, athletic booster programs are often more than willing to help. But sometimes it takes a tattered and worn costume that can't possibly see one more field or basketball court to get the ball rolling. So, if you don't want to wait until "Kingdom come", here's some solo fundraising projects that could quickly put the cash in your pocket and a new costume on your back... Sell mascot promotional items during Homecoming. Everyone, from current students and administrators to alumni get in the spirit of things during Homecoming! Now is a great time to sell your wares and promote yourself! Set up a table during the luch hours the week previous to the game and have your mother (or better yet a cheerleader) man a booth during the games. Sell pins, t-shirts, and cups with your photo plastered on the side. Andersons has a great supply of promotional items to start you off. Spirit Raffle Taken from Andersons site, number the back of the promotional items with permanent marker. Find local businesses to donate prizes or certificates. During the game, announce the reffle winners (of course, by using flash cards--since a mascot does not talk). Adopt-A-Mascot Write letters to all the members of your local Chamber of Commerce asking them if they would like to sponsor you in exchange for appearances. If you are a mascot for a high school team, make sure to leave out those members that own or run bars or liquor stores. Picture of Victory Sell pictures of yourself in your mascot costume for a dime each. Have each class compete against one another by seeing which class can display the most pictures of you. Pep Rally/Halftime Races Charge entry fees for races such as the tricycle race, shopping cart race, bike race, etc and provide entertainment at pep rallies and during halftime. School Know-it-all Have a contest with questions about your school. Sell them to students and faculty. The person with the most correct wins one of your donated prizes. Locker Decorations Provide a year-round service to personalize locker decorations for special occasions. Helium Balloons Go To Page: 1 2
