Ultimate Fighter - Week 8

In week 8 of Ulimate Fighter 2, I -- for once -- am proven completely right in my predictions. Of course, before we go on, here are this article's keywords, per Suite 101's asinine policy: "mixed martial arts", "no holds barred", wrestling, fighting, combat, television, TV, fight, match, grappling, boxing, kickboxing, "reality television", "reality TV"

Anyway, the theme of this week's episode is the humiliation of welterweight contestant Anthony Torres. First, as Blue Team returns home, they are ambushed by Green Team's barrage of water balloons. The contestants are all bored out of their skulls -- no television, no newspapers or magazines, no nothing. And no women.

That might explain why, in the course of the water fight, two of the boys decide to pull down Anthony's shorts in an effort to squirt ketchup down them. Anthony, if you keep giggling with such glee when two men pull your shorts down, you'll never get a date with a woman again. That's fine if that's your goal, but otherwise ...

But Anthony's humiliation isn't over just yet ... The weekly challenge is "Randy Says", in which Randy calls out a series of numbers, each of which corresponds to a given martial arts attack. When Anthony's turn comes up, Randy calls out a gazillion digit combination. The other guy manages to actually pound it out, but after two simple punches, he gets stuck. Now, it's not that I blame him -- I probably would have had a hard time remembering the sequence of numbers and their corresponding techniques. But when Anthony gets stuck, you can almost see the gears in his head ground to a screeching halt, and steam coming out of his ears. The poor guy looked like his mental capacities were so taxed that he was in danger of forgetting how to breathe.

So Blue Team wins the challenge, and my man Luke is chosen to fight Anthony. Luke, as you may remember, is the guy who's been freaking out the other fighters with what they view as his odd practices: meditation, iron palm training, qigong, etc. Now he gets a chance to show he's really a fighter.

We see a scene in which Sam, Luke's teammate, pulls Anthony aside to give him pointers on how to beat Luke. Traitor! Words can't describe how disgusting I find his behavior.

Meanwhile, Luke explains how his diet will give him superior endurance. As an example, he chows down on what looks like a mush of wild rice, kelp, garlic, and tofu. Rashad tries it and manfully manages not to spew it all out. I feel his pain.
