As always, week 7 of Ulimate Fighter 2 continues just where the previous week's episode left off. Here are this article's keywords, which, per Suite 101's policy, must be mentioned in the first paragraph even if doing so makes the article sound stupid: "mixed martial arts", "no holds barred", wrestling, fighting, combat, television, TV, fight, match, grappling, boxing, kickboxing, "reality television", "reality TV"
As you might recall, Jason, a substitute contestant, fought the heavily favored Jorge -- and won. Though he took a lot of abuse and his technique was not the cleanest, Jason used a reach advantage and a considerable amount of heart to win the fight. Jason's coach, Matt Hughes, had been apathetic about Jason's training before the fight, even going so far as to play a game of solitaire during his "supervision" of Jason's training. But though they might have started out on the wrong foot, surely Jason's major victory might win Matt's favor just a little? Coach Hughes does indeed show a lot of excitement in the dressing room after the fight, happily crowing about ... his possible solitaire victory?? Even the rest of the Blue Team, which didn't necessarily like Jason that much, was a bit dumbfounded by Matt's complete lack of caring as far as this fight. Meanwhile, the Green Team's dressing room, Jorge is inconsolable. When a teammate assures him that he still "did great," Jorge (very properly) responds: "Shut the f__k up. No one 'does great' in a fight and loses." Still, he's gracious when Jason comes in to pay his respects, and he accepts his loss in a gentlemanly fashion, congratulating Jason and shouldering full responsibility for the loss before limping on his bad knee to the van. Matt sets the tone for his team, and thus it is that when Jason comes home from the harrowing (for him) experience of getting a few stitches on his face, expecting to find his teammates waiting to congratulate him, he's disappointed. Everyone's gone to bed, and the only conversation he gets is from a guy telling him not to make so much noise. In fact, Matt's cold-blooded competitiveness might be fostering some great conditioning, but not so much team spirit. Rich seems a bit easier on the guys, and they get nearly the same results -- plus a real sense of cameraderie, it seems like. This week's team challenge is ... MUD WRESTLING??? OK, call me a chauvinistic, sexist pig, but the only people who should engage in mud wrestling are gorgeous well-endowed women wearing bikinis or less. This was stupid -- a bunch of large heavyweights rolling around in mud is just gross.
