Ultimate Fighter 2 - Weeks 5 and 6

at the moment, Jorge is back on his back in a guard position. You can see the reach advantage paying off for Jason: even though Jorge has him in a spider guard (i.e., a guard in which the man on the bottom does not wrap his legs around his opponent's waist to control movement but places his feet on his opponent's hip socket to force him to keep his distance), Jason is able to pound away.

In round three, both fighters are clearly tired. They're still trading heavy punches, and Jason's getting the better end of the exchange due to his long arms and Jorge's now-limited mobility. Jorge is still able to shoot in, but to no avail. Those long arms keep slamming punches in. The noticeable thing here is that we hear Matt Hughes actually getting interested in the fight, shouting advice and encouragement. (Up until then, any advice Jason got was from the assistant coaches and the teammates.)

In the end, Jason gets the unanimous decision, and Matt gives Jason some respect for heart -- he's taken some solid blows -- and credit for following his teammates' advice so well. Both fighters look like ... well, they look like they've been in a fight.

Week 5's lessons? Two: even the awkward guy can surprise you, and yes, size DOES matter. Even if you know Gracie jujitsu.
