Ultimate Fighter 2 - Week 3

In the injury report, Rob has a torn muscle in his shoulder, and he won't shut up about it. He goes around to every guy in the house, and like a little annoying ferret, keeps his conversations focused like so: "I'm not a whiner but this really hurts. I'm a bad ass, I can fight through the pain and kick ass, but I might not be able to fight through this pain. You know what I mean? Huh? Do you know do you know do you know? Huh? Huh? Huh?" His coach, Matt Hughes - clearly a wrestler from the Dan Gable school of "suck it up," looks ready to put Rob out of our misery by ripping off the arm, injured shoulder and all, and beating him to death with it.

This week is a heavyweight challenge. The teams get a treading water contest, and damn if some of those guys can't even tread water for two minutes. Guys, come on. I go around claiming that competitive fighters are the most highly conditioned athletes on the planet, and you pull this crap? Thousands of 12-year-old girls can tread water for two minutes!

Rashad is upset over his failure, to his credit, and vows to do better next time.

Josh's replacement arrives at the house - since Josh won a Pyrrhic victory, his departure leaves an unaccountable vacancy. The new guy, Jason, immediately pisses everyone off by failing to invoke the "rookie rule": eyes open, mouth shut. Everyone else has been busting their butts for weeks, and Jason has the nerve to go prancing around boasting about his skills. He can't possibly be that great, since he wasn't one of the guys originally chosen to be a contender. So maybe he should prove himself before mouthing off.

Jason even mouths off to Matt during his conditioning and skills evaluation - the series of grueling workouts that the rest of the guys did in week one: running, bodyweight calisthenics, bag work, weight training, and striking and grappling sparring all done one right after the other without rest, repeatedly. Jason dares Matt to bring it on: you can't break me, he says. Of course, it's easy to break anyone down if you're just barking out orders for more exercises - something Jason didn't quite realize until he was quite literally collapsed, begging to stop, and puking his guts out (literally.)

But, as always, the reason we tune
