Ultimate Fighter 2 - Week 3

Week of the Whiner

In week 2, we saw Josh win an elimination match against Melvin. I said that Josh's only attribute was impressive strength and endurance that allowed him to lift and slam a struggling Melvin many, many times. Now we are forced to add one more attribute to Josh's list: incredible pain tolerance. Turns out Melvin wasn't the only one with a broken bone; while blocking a full-on Thai roundhouse kick, Josh broke his arm, yet continued to fight, lifting Melvin and body-slamming him repeatedly with a broken arm. Impressive, as I said. (I bet those bitches Kenny and Eli both feel like the total dickless wonders that they are now.) Sadly, this means that Josh is out of the competition, and that we've lost three guys to injury.

Back at the house, the blue team discovers what anyone who's ever spent more than a few minutes inside a fraternity house knows: young men are slobs. Thanks to the Green Team's refusal to clean up after themselves (the pieces of rotting lunch meat in the kitchen cabinets were a nice touch), the house is now host to a bunch of roaches. Lovely.

There's a cut to some shots of Luke doing some exercises that are commonly associated with the Chinese arts - i.e., styles that are rarely seen in mixed martial arts competition. The reasons for this are debatable, but the point is, these guys are flabbergasted at the sight of Luke practicing Iron Palm hand conditioning on a portable sand bag and doing meditation and what looks to be traditional set of breathing exercises known as the Yi Gin Ging. The latter was the foundation of all the martial arts taught at the Shaolin Temple, and develops strength in both muscles and tendons. There doesn't seem to be a point to this footage, except to give Luke's housemates the chance to say, "That guy's OK, but really weird," repeatedly. Oh well, maybe it will become relevant in future episodes. I really wonder how Luke will do on the mats.

Cut to an ad for Xyience nutritional supplements. Xyience is clearly a big sponsor of the UFC, and previous ads have featured current UFC champion Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin, who won UF1. This latest one features a hot UFC ring girl sweating and working out. Gotta say, I love those guys, but give me a beautiful, athletic girl anytime. Much better ad, and sex does, indeed sell. But I digress.
