Have you ever experienced a life-changing event? An accident, a serious illness, a death of a family member or friend, a separation or divorce, the loss of a job…? Although the majority of these events cause one to take a second look at life, ponder the future, and consider making some changes, these events are never, ever, life changing unless you consciously decide that they are and you commit to a process of renewal.

What does this have to do with business? Basically everything…!

Understanding how these events affect you, your colleagues and your team members, directly and indirectly, is the key to successfully managing your career and performance. Emotional intelligence is a growing field of study and practice in the business world today. Having sufficient maturity, presence of mind and an effective response/action system are the keys to reducing stress, improving capacity, and quite simply, having fun in the workplace.

So what does this mean?

I suggest that you drop by your local bookstore, pore through the shelves on psychology or business, pick up a few select titles on Emotional Intelligence, then pour yourself a coffee and thumb through them, eventually buy one or two and then,… go to work!

Yes, it takes concentration and effort to analyze, plan, change and improve your emotional intelligence and value in the marketplace.

Good Luck!
