When we survey the scene of the .com world today, it is relatively easy to see the wealth of opportunity that lies ahead. Many new companies have taken flight with great success - the so-called first movers in the market are forging ahead with weekly additions to their business plans. Indeed, bricks and mortar companies are starting to realize the gains from their efforts to web-ize or internet-ize their operations and business models.
The content challenge has been extended. Technologies such as XML have allowed us to separate content from the presentation to enable write-oneness and set the stage for multiple access. The Internet services sector with a genesis of over 73 billion service transactions (total) in the United States in 1999, is another pallet from which the Internet Michaelangelos or perhaps Picassos will create interest, value and wealth. Vertical and Horizontal services portals are creating an aggregation of content, services, advertising, aggregate buying and community. They are extending the value of all other sites around one simple, common, (maybe even a doorstop) object - THE YELLOW PAGES!!!
