Great Speed...!I recently read an article about the future race between AOL Time Warner and Microsoft, with AOL Time Warner coming at the world with content and Microsoft with software. Amazingly the subscriber bases of these two organizations approach, at least according to Fortune, 750 million people. Microsoft has an estimated 400 million windows users, yet only 4 million online subsribers. This is in stark contrast to AOL Time Warner who have over 40 million online subscribers, and 175 million subscribers from the cable and publishing assets. From my point of view, I am most fascinated by the strategic elements of the matchup. The vision of these companies is unbelievable. One early suggestion is that they may join forces, but the final conclusion was that this is probably not in their genes. We will have to wait and see. Speaking of genes, the Internet seems to be lighting up the core of everyone's fiber. eBusiness is forcing all of us to spontaneously reflect on our past, current and future opportunities. Digging deep to move forward and capitalize on past mistakes will separate the strong from the meek. In doing so, one of the key tenants is "the past does not equal the future". This means that we need to learn from the essence of past mistakes and immediately combine that knowledge with insight into market dynamics. Notwithstanding great insight, putting together the team is the most important part. The leader (either successful or bruised) needs to come to the table with a fresh perspective, ready to move forward, to look in earnest for unique opportunities, and then capitalize, (i.e. achieve success)! And remember, keep your head up!!
