Ray Liotta Part One

to make friends. I was here to do something specific. And I set out to do it." GQ November 1991

Four more years passed with only small TV parts to show for it. His career was going nowhere and he was getting nervous and very frustrated. Then he heard that Jonathan Demme was casting an unknown in a black comedy called Something Wild. But he couldn't get a reading so he called Melanie (who had the lead female part) and asked her to help him get an audition. She did and Ray finally got his shot. He funneled all his career frustration into it and landed the role with a vengeance. His disturbing performance made a big impression on Hollywood, earning him a Golden Globe nomination and Boston Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor.

"Acting is a simple make-believe game and that's it." Chattanooga News Free Press, June 26, 1992

"I've gotten to the point where you let it go. You try to make the best choices that you can. If the movie gods are going to shine on you, they will." Movieline, 1998
