What's New in the News?

May 15, 2004 - © Irene Taylor

Another interesting section of the paper is the editorial page. It is a great place to go for material for teaching persuasive writing. Teach students about this form of writing and then study examples in the paper.

Many of the top news organizations have special areas of features for children. Here are a few that you might want to check into:

ABCNews4Kids: http://abcnews.go.com/abcnews4kids/kids/...

Time for Kids: http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/

Wall Street Journal Children's Edition: http://www.wsjclassroomedition.com/index...

U.S. News Classroom: http://www.usnewsclassroom.com/

Newsweek Education Program: http://school.newsweek.com/

New York Times Learning Network: http://www.nytimes.com/learning/

Many of these sites have teacher's guides and activities that can be used to teach the news.
