A Bevy of Summer Seminars

Another trade show season has arrived, and with it, a host of seminars that focus on helping you to start or grow your gift basket business. Most seminars will be held within large trade show arenas, but there are exceptions. In late June, I spoke about fall and holiday gift baskets at the Philadelphia Gift Show. The producers, Urban Expositions, have scheduled a gift basket seminar to be conducted during the summer at one of the Florida shows. Visit their Web site at http://www.urban-expo.com/ for more information. The Dallas Market Center always plans two gift basket topics for their July show. One year, I conducted a seminar in their gourmet section, which I found to be well structured and full of products to create hundreds of unique basket designs. Los Angeles is once again abuzz with an abundance of trade show and consumer-based gift basket help. July 16 is The L.A. Mart's gift basket day. Three speakers will be featured, addressing topics for beginners and experts. I'm speaking on marketing at 10:00, followed by Sossi Crilly at noon and Vivian Shiffman at 2:00. You must have credentials to show that you are a registered business owner to attend the Philadelphia Gift Show, Dallas Market Center, L.A. Mart and the gift show in Florida. Want to learn about gift baskets in a less-formal, no-credentials-needed atmosphere? Then sign up for an adult school gift basket class. On July 15, I'll be speaking in the evening at the Beverly Hills Adult School. If you're busy that day, join me on Tuesday evening at the Learning Annex. Each session promises to give you a variety of information and demonstrative techniques on construction, product selection, sales and marketing, shipping and delivery, pricing, insurance, mistakes and solutions, finding customers and more. There may also be non-trade gift basket class in your immediate area. For example, when in town, I teach a gift basket course at Colorado Free University in Denver, but so does another individual. The other designer is based in the Colorado area, so her class is offered frequently. Check Colorado Free University's Web site at http://www.freeu.com/ for dates and times. The New York-based Learning Annex and The Seminar Center also offer gift basket classes. You can easily find both schedules online by locating each company's Web site and searching for the courses. In my own research, I've found gift basket classes located in Georgia, Indiana, Chicago and Seattle. If it exists, it's not difficult to find gift basket courses in your own backyard.
