The Perfect Summer

The beach, the parties, and meeting new people in casual, outdoor settings. It sounds like the ideal way to spend the next three months.

What's even better are the number of opportunities you have during the summer to spread the word about your business to individuals who will either buy gift baskets from you during the upcoming holidays or tell others about your company and winning personality.

Your marching orders for the next three months are quite easy:

1. Attend every party you can find and are invited to. Why? Because meeting people and developing relationships are your goals. Conversing in a relaxed atmosphere with people from all walks of life is your best weapon to make the fourth quarter (October to December) the financial success you envision.

2. Develop a tag line. This is what you say when asked what you do or when you want to start a conversation about your business. Here's an example:

"I show Fortune 500 companies how to attract new business."

A tag line is an intriguing sentence that communicates the power of your business and how that power impacts on another's success. Many people will be fascinated with your tag line and hang on your every word.

Your new friends will share past experiences of receiving a gift basket or recall how another person reacted when receiving one. Consider these stories as part of your research. Your information you convey should convince these newfound friends that you are the person they should order gift baskets from in the future.

3. Show your enthusiasm. If you love your work, let it show in the way you present yourself. People prefer to align themselves with individuals who are happy in their chosen profession, and it's easy to show your love for gift baskets in this relaxed setting.

4. Know when to stop talking business. There is a delicate balance between talking shop and participating in a conversation. Share stories about the funny side of business, such as when a customer requested a live lizard in the basket or how a bunch of helium balloons floated away. However, there will come a time when the talk shifts to another person and other subjects. Listen attentively and use this camaraderie to build mutual relationships.

5. The next day, follow up the night's festivities by mailing the materials you promised or by making telephone calls to potential clients. Also consider making contact by Email if you traded addresses. This is a very important step to cementing bonds that can last a lifetime.
