SETTING GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR!

© Jowoanna Williams

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! It's coming to the end of another year and the end of the 4th quarter. As you look back, hopefully you will be able to relish in your accomplishments and the growth that your business has made. Did you achieve all the goals that you set for your business in 2004? If for some reason you've fallen short of those goals then you have to ask yourself, why? Was there something that you could have done differently, or is there something that you should have done, but for whatever reason you didn't?

As you set your goals for 2005, be honest with yourself about what it is you want to achieve in business. Are the goals you're setting for yourself realistic for you at this time? I was recently presented with an opportunity that any gift basket professional would love to have handed to them. As much as I wanted to accept the challenge, I had to put the opportunity on hold because the timing just was not right. I knew that If I accepted the job I could not honestly give the customer my best, and could possibly jeopardize my reputation, becoming known as a company that does a mediocre job. I hope that in 2005 when I will have the time to dedicate to this project, the opportunity will still be available. If not, I will just have to accept it and move on to the next opportunity.

As you achieve each goal that you set for yourself, do you settle for complacency or are you always looking ahead to the next level? Always be on the lookout for new and innovative ways to market your business. Gifting opportunities are all around you if you think outside the box. It's up to you as the professional to make people see gifting opportunities where none previously existed.

In 2005, make a promise to yourself to join one organization, club, or networking group to broaden your network of like-minded individuals. Many years ago, I went to a business seminar and the only thing that I remember about the entire two hours was that the speaker said, "If you want to be a success in business find a successful person and duplicate what they do." So, with that said, start looking around for like-minded people. They don't necessarily have to be well-known, nor do they have to have a six-figure income. Like-minded people are people who have the same values and goals that you do, who can uplift, encourage, and yes, help you achieve the goals that you've set for your business.
