Tips For A Stress Free Holiday

Tip # 3 - Plan Ahead

You can never plan for everything that may happen but there are some things that you can do to plan ahead. We all know that there's always gonna be that last minute shopper that comes, or calls at 3 or 4 o'clock on Christmas Eve saying "I need a present for my girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, In-law, unexpected guest, etc."

These are the types of customers that you plan ahead for. Don't even think of stressing yourself out trying to design a one-of-a-kind gift basket at the last minute. Use what I call the grab-n-go method. These are baskets (usually stand-alone gifts) that you've pre-made, or better yet ordered ahead of time from another company already made up. Have them stacked and ready to go. Add a gift card and voila you're done.

We all love our customers but we have to remember that we still have obligations to our families outside of business and they deserve out time and attention too. You want to enjoy your family and have them enjoy your company as well stress free.

Tip # 4 - Just Say NO!

I know, I know it's the holidays. Everybody wants to have a prosperous holiday season. Turn down an order NEVER! YES, TURN THAT ORDER DOWN! Sometimes there is a request that you know deep down inside is unreasonable and undoable but for whatever reason you don't want to say no. Maybe it's because you're new to the business and saying no seems like cutting your throat. Maybe it's because this particular customer has been a regular throughout the years and you feel a sense of obligation.

You know as soon as you hear the request if it's something that you want to do, or if it's something that you can do. If the answer to either of these questions is no, then don't be afraid to just say no. Here's how you do it. Mr. or Mrs. Smith, I'd really like to help you but because this is the busy season I really don't have the manpower to accept your order at this time. See, that wasn't so hard. If you really feel like you want to accept the order say this. May I suggest XYZ as an alternative gift solution (a.k.a. stand-alone gifts)? The customer is happy because they feel like you've gone the extra mile, and you've gotten rid of your guilt feelings. Everybody's happy.
