To Stay In Business You Gotta Sell Them!business. Last year I took my 3-yr.-old granddaughter with me and let her hand out flyers and chocolates. She was a huge success, plus she's gaining valuable business experience that Harvard just can't teach you. I participate each year with the knowledge that I most likely will not sell at this event. I have, however, made some good friends, as well as numerous business contacts, so even though there is no monetary gain, I do get something out of the event. I also donate a gift basket to be given away as one of the many door prizes that's donated each year. That's another way for me to get my name out there. Of course, I always include a business card tucked discreetly inside the basket. It stands to reason that if a couple of gift basket businesses or a gift basket business and a couple of related businesses got together and split the cost of the booth, that might be a viable solution. Some shows frown upon businesses sharing a space, so you have to check that out ahead of time. Preparation would be key to making a show successful. Have plenty of inventory on hand for those cash-and-carry individuals; brochures and business cards for the grab and go shoppers; discounts available for orders placed the day of and/or volume discounts. Have your pricing terms clearly spelled out so that there is no misunderstanding later on. Make sure that you follow up on all leads and you should find success selling at craft/trade shows, festivals, and events. Wishing you peace and joy in all you do, Jowoanna
