Going Green - Eco Friendly Baskets and Gifts

I got the inspiration for this article from events that have happened to me and some changes that I've decided to make in my life in 2004. Since the age of 25 I've had health related issues and I've been trying ever since to live a somewhat healthier lifestyle. Well, I've gotten older and so the things that didn't bother me before are starting to bother me now. For instance cigarette smoke; it literally makes me short of breath. No, not the gasping for air kind but the "I have to breath a little deeper whenever I come in contact with it" kind. Also, I've developed allergies that I never had before. So in my quest to live a healthier lifestyle I've started eating mostly vegetables (I still love my chicken and fish) and I'm trying to talk my husband into getting rid of the carpet and installing wood flooring.

I said all this to say that it's made me more aware of the food and products that I buy. I do buy organic fruits and vegetables from my local farmer's market (is it just me or do organic vegetables not take as long to cook?) and I'm searching for cleaning products that are geared toward allergy sufferers and will still clean my house and give it that fresh smell. Of course all this started me thinking about ways to turn eco friendly products into gift baskets and how I could possibly tap into this market.

Most people involved in the gift basket industry on any level are well aware of what I call the trinity of the industry. These are the top three profit producing, commercial holidays of the year. Of course I'm talking about Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day. Now, that's not to say the other holidays are not profitable - they are - however, they don't compare to the profit potential of these three. With that said I'd like to take this a step further and talk a little bit about a small niche market that is often overlooked or not even thought about because it is not looked upon as a profit producing market.

I'm talking about the Eco Friendly or Environmentally Friendly Gift Market. In the gift business you never know what type of basket request you'll receive so it's important to know where to turn to find the answers to the not-so-ordinary gift request.

More and more consumers are becoming more health conscious and living healthier lifestyles. As this trend continues the request for eco friendly products and services will continue to rise.
