The home teams remained strong over the weekend causing the need for a game three and probably overtime playoff sessions at the end of the next games.

The first of the game-two match-ups came in LA on Saturday. LA hosted Chicago but could not get much accomplished against the Fire but they did get enough. Both teams played extremely well and caused the game to go into overtime. In the 94th minute Peter Vagenas was served by Luis Hernandez and found the back of the net. The next match between these two teams will be Wednesday in Chicago.

Maybe it's because they did so poorly last year, but I am kind of pulling for San Jose to take it all and they took a big step toward that goal on Sunday by trouncing the Miami Fusion 4-0 in San Jose. The win evens the series with each team having 3 points. Even though the number of goals was significant other events may have an even bigger affect on the eventually outcome of this series. In the 23rd minute Diego Serna was red-carded and he will be unavailable for the next match. Also in the 74th minute Ivan McKinley was ejected from the Miami side. McKinley had been responsible for marking Landon Donovan and he will also be unavailable. On the San Jose side they lost Zak Ibsen in the 23rd minute when he and Serna tangled after falling to the ground.

The scoring was opened up by Donovan in the 16th minute when Manny Lagos made the first of his two assists for the night by feeding Donovan at the top of the box which Donovan put into the lower-right corner. That was the only goal of the first half but the Quakes opened it up in the second half. In the 57th minute Ian Russell sent a perfectly placed ball into the upper corner to notch the second goal of the night. In the 69th minute Richard Mulrooney lifted a ball over the Miami defense to Lagos who rushed onto the ball and blasted a shot into the lower right corner for the third goal of the night. The fourth goal came from Dwayne DeRosario who subbed in for Donovan in the 75th minute. DeRosario intercepted a poor Miami backpass in the 89th minute and launched a left-footed shot just over the keeper and into the net.

The Quakes have always looked good at home on a field that is much smaller than others in MLS. It will be a test for them to look good in Miami on Wednesday.
