Playoff Picture Starts to Come ClearThe weekend results ended up qualifying another team for the playoffs and creating a fight for the remaining two slots. DC was able to stay in the playoff hunt with a surprise win over Columbus in RFK Stadium. Columbus got the board in the first half when Jeff Cunningham deflected a shot off a DC player and into the net in the 25th minute. But DC would come back in the second half when in the 69th minute Stephan Armstrong blasted a shot from 25 yards out to even the score. In the 80th minute Jaime Moreno fed a pass to Abdul Thompson Conteh who then raced toward the back and was able to land a 15 yard shot into the corner of the net to give DC the 2-1 win. IN LA the Galaxy could not contain the Fire. Ante Razov started the scoring in the 5th minute when DeMarcus Beasley fed a pass to him in the box. Chicago would add a second goal in the 64th minute when Dema Kovalenko fed a pass to the left of the LA box to Beasley who then notched the first of his two goals for the night. LA got one back in 78th minute when Peter Vagenas was able to control a lose ball at the top of the Fire penalty area and drill a shot into the back of the net. But Beasley would add an insurance goal in stoppage time when Eric Wynalda knocked the ball into the box for Beasley to barely get into the net. In another surprise result, the Metros headed into Miami and was able to out last the Fusion to earn a 3-2 win. The only goal of the first half came when Diego Serna fed Alex Pineda Chacon who was able to work his way around the Metros keeper and put the ball in the net in the 9th minute. But Rodrigo Faria would tie it up when he one-touched a shot into the net in the 48th minute. But Pineda Chacon got Miami back on top in the 78th minute when he headed in a long cross from Chris Henderson. But the Metros were not to be out done. In the 84th minute the Metros tied it up when Petter Villegas put a shot shot just inside the right post. And then in stoppage time Daniel Hernandez was able to bend a free kick perfectly and put the ball in the upper left corner for the game winner.
