Action and News from the 4/28 Weekend

I know that I am not the only one scratching his head trying to figure out what is going on with some of the MLS teams that aren't doing too hot. At least the coaches and players are working on it, I hope.

In a televised match, Chicago traveled to Tampa Bay to take on the Mutiny at home. The Mutiny were without some of their bigs guns with Diallo out on supension, but they were still expected to be strong. instead, Chicago came in like they owned the place and quickly tried to prove that they did. In what turned out to be the only goal of the match, Josh Wolff was knocked down just outside the Mutiny box and then converted the free kick with some nice placement into the side netting. What may have been the scariest moment in the match for US soccer fans came when Craig Demmin tackled Wolff from behind in a yellow card play that saw Wolff badly roll his ankle.

Finally, in the bonehead play of the match, John Maessner earned a red card for dragging down Fire midfielder DaMarcus Beasley who was on a break-away run to the goal. Does he have no trust in the ability of his keeper?

Now I agree that the Rapids have not had the easiest of schedules yet this season but this is starting to make people worry. They have traveled to Miami, hosted the Metros, and have then been playing against the Galaxy, but they have only mustered 1 point out of all of it. In their home match against LA on Saturday the defense was exposed several times.

In the 22nd minute, Cobi Jones burnt the Rapids on a counter-attack to give the Galaxy the lead. Junior Agogo brought Colorado back even in the 44th minute but in first-half stoppage time Jones gave L.A. the lead once again.

In the second half, Sasha Victorine was in the right place at the right time in order to gather up a bouncing ball in front of the Colorado goal and put it in the back of the net.

John Spencer came on in the second half and in about 20 minutes sent a rocket into the Galaxy goal to bring the Rapids back within 1 but they could not get any more than that. So here the Rapids are with only one point out of 4 games.

But they are not struggling as badly as the New England Revolution at this point. The Revs of had to play Miami twice and face other strong teams, but they have been unable to take away even one point from any of their matches yet this year.
