Results of the 2001 SuperdraftPayne, 28, spent a portion of the 2000 season with the MetroStars making one appearance in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rapids on August 23. CHICAGO FIRE The Chicago Fire selected midfielder Justin Evans with its 11th pick (23rd overall) in the second round, the team's first selection of the 2001 MLS SuperDraft held today at the Signature Grand in Davie, Fla. Evans is no stranger to the team, as the 24-year old was called up by the Fire last season and appeared in two games, registering his first MLS assist. A total of four players were selected by the Fire at the SuperDraft, including Villanova defender Jim Curtin (29th overall), South Carolina goalkeeper Henry Ring (33rd overall), and Central Coast Roadrunners' forward Danny Risch (68th overall). The 6'4' Curtin has twice been named first-team All-Big East selection, while Ring is a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association/Adidas All-American Third team player. He is the second Gamecock to ever accomplish the feat twice, the other being Clint Mathis. The final selection for the Fire was the 22-year-old Risch, who has been playing with the Central Coast Roadrunners of the Premier Development League, where he led the team with 15 goals and six assists. The Fire sent its remaining pick of the 2001 SuperDraft (71st overall) to Dallas for a sixth round pick in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. DALLAS BURN With their first choice the Dallas Burn chose midfielder, Joselito Vaca. Vaca has in 15 international tournaments for Tahuichi since 1995 including seven games in the Tampa Sun Bowl in 1998 as Tahuichi won the competition. At 18-years of age, Vaca is a member of the senior National Team player pool, where he is considered the heir to Marco Etcheverry of D.C. United ... Has already played in two 2002 World Cup qualifying matches, wearing the coveted #10 jersey for one of the matches, where he helped organize play in midfield ... Won over the Bolivian crowds with his skilful plays ... He is also a member of the U-20 National Team and led the team to the South American U-20 championships in Ecuador this past January ...
