Results of the 2001 Superdraft


first was that Pittsburgh Riverhounds sweeper Tenywa Bonseu was allocated to the Crew. The second was that the Crew had traded their #3 overall pick to DC for goalkeeper Tom Presthus. They also received DC's #10 pick in the first round. With that pick they selected midfielder Duncan Oughton.

The Crew had two draft picks in the third round - #3 and #6. With their first pick the Crew selected Project-40 midfielder Edson Buddle. With their second pick the Crew selected Trinidad & Tobagoan defender Kevin Adams.

With their third pick in the fourth round, the Crew selected UCLA forward McKinley Tennyson Jr.

With their pick in round five, the Crew selected Brown University midfielder Scott Powers.

With their final pick of the 2001 SuperDraft, Columbus picked Pittsburgh Riverhounds forward Phil Karn.

TAMPA BAY MUTINY With the second overall pick in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft, the Tampa Bay Mutiny selected forward Ali (Ah-LEE) Curtis from Duke University.

"I'm all set to go and ready to play," said Curtis. "I've heard great things about Mamadou Diallo and his ability to score goals. I look forward to being on the same page as him. I'm very versitile and hopefully I can play off of him well and give him some great balls and maybe I will record some assists."

With the sixth overall pick, the Mutiny selected defender Craig Demmin from the Rochester Rhinos.

"This is a great opportunity for me," said Demmin. "I get to play in the MLS and am able to move on in my career. I'm looking forward to going to Tampa and contributing to the team."

During the break after the first round, the Mutiny traded forward Manny Lagos to the San Jose Earthquakes for the 14th and 34th overall picks.

With the second pick in the second round (14th overall), the Mutiny selected forward Devin Barclay from Pro-40.

With the 10th pick in the third round (34th overall), the Tampa Bay Mutiny selected midfielder Alberto Munoz from the Miami Breakers (PDL).

With the eighth pick in the fourth round (44th overall), the Mutiny selected goalkeeper Adam Throop from the Chicago Sockers (PDL).

With the eighth pick in the fifth round (56th overall), the Mutiny selected defender Mersim Beskovic from the Westchester Flames (PDL).

After a trade with Kansas City for the Mutiny's fifth round pick in the 2002 draft, Tampa Bay selected midfielder Hector Navarte 12th in the fifth round (60th overall) from the Westcester Flames (PDL).
