The Colorado Rapids are continuing to interview a number of candidates for their vacant head coach position. Colorado's GM, Dan Counce, has "met with Chicago Fire assistant coach Mike Jeffries, Rapids assistant coach Rene Miramontes, former Tampa Bay Mutiny head coach Tim Hankinson, and former head coach Lorne Donaldson of the now defunct Colorado Foxes (A-League). Other candidates include former Dallas Burn head coach Dave Dir, Rochester Raging Rhinos' (A-League) head coach Pat Ercoli, and Portland's Clive Charles."

I personally think that Clive Charles would be an excellent candidate if he is interested in the position. He would bring name recognition and successful experince to the position.

In other news, Thomas Dooley is retiring from soccer. Dooley plans to retire to his new home in Laguna Niguel, Calif. He "plans on creating a soccer university in the Orange County area to help train young players on the fundamentals of the game. The former captain of the national team wants to pass his soccer knowledge and experience onto the local soccer community." I wonder if he could be talked into pro coaching?

In mid-January the DC United and the LA Galaxy will participate in the 2000 Champions' Cup, a regional international tournament that will be held in Southern California. The winner and runners up of this tournament will qualify for the 2001 FIFA Club World Championship in Spain. United and Galaxy will face champion teams from Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica and the Caribbean area.

MLS coaches have also been working hard preparing for the 2001 Superdraft. The superdraft will take place on Feb. 4 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.,and includes college players, A-league and new Project-40 signings. Many MLS teams have signifactly improved their rosters through this draft session. It should be interesting to watch and follow.
