In other news, Thomas Dooley is retiring from soccer. Dooley plans to retire to his new home in Laguna Niguel, Calif. He "plans on creating a soccer university in the Orange County area to help train young players on the fundamentals of the game. The former captain of the national team wants to pass his soccer knowledge and experience onto the local soccer community." I wonder if he could be talked into pro coaching?
In mid-January the DC United and the LA Galaxy will participate in the 2000 Champions' Cup, a regional international tournament that will be held in Southern California. The winner and runners up of this tournament will qualify for the 2001 FIFA Club World Championship in Spain. United and Galaxy will face champion teams from Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica and the Caribbean area.
MLS coaches have also been working hard preparing for the 2001 Superdraft. The superdraft will take place on Feb. 4 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.,and includes college players, A-league and new Project-40 signings. Many MLS teams have signifactly improved their rosters through this draft session. It should be interesting to watch and follow.
