The 2000 Season comes to a Close

I don't think I have ever seen a better 1-0 game. I think they ought to make an award that is given to the most exciting team of the year. They could even put some money behind it so MLS would become a very exciting brand of soccer.

Chicago make me stay on the edge of my seat. I found myself trying to will them a goal just because they were working so hard. But Meola was just having one of those games and so was the referee. I don't care what Hristo's history is like; if you're pushed in the box then you are pushed in the box.

The interesting aspect of the game was that the Fire didn't really give up anything on defense. Most people think that a team either has to be defensive or offensive, but not both. I think Chicago showed that you can be both, and excel at it.

If you look at the records and the types of wins, then I suppose that KC deserved the win, but Chicago sure does deserve to be more than second.

In other MLS news, Dave Dir, the Dallas Burn coach has been removed. Dir has been the only coach Dallas has had. It will be interesting to see who gets put in his place. Dallas has an extremely strong team, with a lot of talent, but they had trouble winning on the road and were swept out of the playoffs in two matches by the Metrostars.

Also, in a unique opportunity for redemption, Chicago will face the Miami Fusion in the final of the Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Miami will have to shake off the dust from taking a few weeks off, but they also got to rest and heal up. Chicago, on the other hand, is coming off that loss to KC and will be looking for a high-note to end the season, and the match is in Chicago. The game is Oct 21 at 8pm EST and is being broadcast live on FOX Sports World.
