So it Comes Down to This

I know that we are all use to playoffs, and championships, and all that, but I'm not really sure I agree with it. What it really means is that you play all season to win home-field advantage in the playoffs. Big deal! I kind of think that the Brits may have this one right. Play all season, and the one on top in the end is the winner. Set up some tournaments at key times for some fresh rivalry, and organize the A-league to serve as a division one league. Teams that are in the bottom bracket of the MLS standings move down, and those of the top bracket of the division 1 standings move up. Seems like a pretty good plan to me.

That brings me to this article. As far as our current situation goes, we are down to game three in both semifinals. KC tied LA at home in the first game, and then lost game two in LA. They are now back in KC, and must win this final match tonight if they want to move on to the finals. I am not saying that LA doesn't deserve to be there, its just that KC managed a much better record over the long run.

In the other semifinal, Chicago is back at home after losing game two in New York, but winning game one in Chicago. Chicago has a powerful lineup and has been looking good at home. One interesting point is that no matter who goes to the final, no one is going to have home-field advantage. Is it LA that has that best recent "away" record?
