Final Playoff spot up for Grabs

On Tuesday the Metrostars defeated Miami with a score of 2 to 1 and set in motion a battle for the final playoff spot. Wednesday saw KC over NE 1-0, Chicago was victorious over Columbus 3-1, and Dallas defeated LA 1-0 in LA. With these scores seven teams are now locked into the playoffs.

The way it sits right now is this. KC is the top with 56 points and has clinched the West division. Chicago and New York are tied for points at 54 and have clicnched the Central and Eastern division respectively. Following them is Tampa Bay with 51 points and LA with 50. Dallas and NE has squeaked their way in with 43 points for Dallas and 42 for NE.

After these seven the next in line are the Colorado Rapids with 40 points. If they can manage a win against LA in Denver, they will be the final playoff team. If they tie, they may still make it in depending on how Columbus and Miami do. Miami faces DC United in DC and should not expect an easy go off it. Columbus will face Chicago in Columbus and will face a very strong Chicago team.

If Colorado ties, they still may make it in depending on how Columbus and Miami do. The ironic thing is that Colorado could make it into the playoffs even if they lose, if Columbus and Miami lose as well. We'll just have to wait and see how it looks come Monday.

Other matches this weekend include KC at TB where KC will be looking to hold on to the top spot, the Metrostars traveling to NE looking to improve on their number two/three spot, and Dallas hosting San Jose looking to move up a bit in the rankings.
