Playoff Race Intensifies

KC will face the ever-injured Rapids on Saturday in a match of the last against the first. KC sits at the top of the standings with a score of 49, while Colorado is fighting for a tie of the eighth, and last playoff spot in a tie with NE. The Rapids will host the Wizards and will face Meola and company without their top playmaker, Andres Limpar, and without their top goal scorer, Junior Agogo.

The number two team will travel to Dallas take on the Burn. The Metrostars have been playing very well lately, looks like a strong unit. They will have their work cut out for them in Dallas against the dynamic duo of Graziani and Kreis. Dallas has been very strong at home and could edge to within a point of LA in the playoff race if they win and LA loses to San Jose. The Metros will need a win if they want to stay close to KC.

The number three team, the Mutiny, will host Chicago in the hopes of staying close to the Metros and holding Chicago off. Chicago is only three points behind Tampa Bay and will be coming to down looking to come away with those three points. If Chicago loses, and LA wins, then LA will skip over Chicago into the number four slot.

LA will travel to San Jose to take on a 'Quake team that was once unbeatable at home. When these two teams last faced each other back on May 27, the game ended in a tie. It could happen again. San Jose has been playing some good ball, off and on lately, and could pull out a surprise. I would look for it to be close, but LA should pull it out.

In a mix-it-up of the lower playoff teams, Columbus will travel to Foxboro to take on the Revs. The Revs are only two points behind the Crew and could move ahead of them by one point if they get the win. Both clubs have been playing strong lately, but New England tends to be fairly strong at home, and Columbus will be without the services of Robert Warzycha. If the Revs show up to play I would look for them to move up in the standings.

In a match of they yet, and not to be, the Fusion will travel to DC take face the disappointed United. Last week's lost left DC locked out of the playoffs for the first time in MLS history. But this is still a team of champions and do not look for them to take it easy on the Fusion. If Miami doesn't think that they are going to have a serious soccer match on their hands, then they will come out the losers. Lassiter has been playing well for the Fusion and if he and his mates come to play they may have a chance to move into the playoff hunt if Colorado and New England lose and they pull out a win.
