Can Tampa Bay cool off Kansas City?

Kansas City rolled into New York and did as expected against the Metrostars, granted, they didn't do it as big as everyone thought they might. The Wizards beat the Metrostars 2-1 in the midweek clash at Giants Stadium. Meola did not keep his shutout streak going, but they got the win. That pretty much sums up the Wizards to this point. The wins haven't necessarily been pretty, but they gotten the win.

This week Tampa Bay comes to Kansas City to give it a try. The Mutiny are 0-2 this season on the road, while the Wizards are 3-0 at home. The Mutiny will have a red-hot Raul Diaz Race back from World Cup qualifying, but the Wizards have Miklos Molnar. The Wizards defense is playing well and is healthy. I think we will see the Wizards take another one, even if it may not be all that smooth.

The Chicago Fire go to Foxboro Saturday to face the New England Revolution. Both teams have been playing 50-50 ball as of late. What I mean is that their second-half effort has let them down. The Revolution ended up tying the LA Galaxy 2-2 a few weeks ago, and the Fire lost 3-2 to DC United. Both results came from matches that the teams were leading well into the second half. The Revs have struggled getting numbers on the board while the Fire have Stoitchkov, who has, well been on Fire. He currently has an average of a goal per game played, but he is nursing a groin injury and is listed as probable for the match.

But the best story of two struggling teams will be the Metrostars against the United. Both teams look great on paper. DC has both youth and MLS experience. The Metros have both youth and world-class, international experience. Both teams have shown moments of brillance, along with spans of time looking lack-luster. For either one of teams, this game could be a turning point. Both teams have felt like they just haven't clicked. Mattheus has now had a few weeks to work with his teammates and settle into his role, but he may be away with the German national team duties. Etcheverry is back in the lineup and settling in with his teammates as well. Definitely a game that could go either way.

One team that hasn't looked that great on paper is the Colorado Rapids. Although they have great talent and experience, they have yet to get all of it on the field at the same time. The Rapids are just now starting to come back from early and pre-season injuries. The Rapids had so many pre-season injuries that they were forced to cancel one of their pre-season matches in Portugal. The Rapids are still missing four of their key midfielders either due to injury or world cup qualifying. Columbus on the other hand is only missing two players and have enjoyed the return of Ansil Elcock in the defensive midfield. Columbus is coming off their first regulation time win and the Rapids are coming from a 4-2 loss against Tampa Bay. But the newest Rapid, Junior Agogo, has now had a week to train with his new team. It should make for a very interesting match in Columbus.
