There are many noteworthy Maine people throughout history who have succeeded in creative occupations: writers, directors, and artists. One of the recent success stories is celebrity Liv Tyler. Tyler is a famous actress and native-born Mainer, whose show-business roots led her into a career on the big screen. Liv Tyler was born on July 17, 1977, and grew up with her mother, famous model and Playboy Playmate Bebe Buell in Portland, Maine. She is also the daughter of Aerosmith band member Steven Tyler, though during her early life she was raised by her mother and her stepfather, rock star Todd Rundgren, the founding member of the band, Utopia. More information on Steven Tyler and Todd Rundgren can be found on their personal web sites, http://www.steven-tyler.com and http://www.tr-i.com Tyler’s modeling career began when she and her mother moved to New York in 1991, but she soon decided that acting was what she wanted to do. Between 1993 and 1996, Tyler appeared in seven films and her career took off. Her early credits include Silent Fall, Empire Records, Stealing Beauty, Inventing the Abbotts, Armegeddon, and Cookies Fortune. The Lord of the Rings phenomena has been significant in Tyler’s career, making her well known to audiences of all ages. She starred as Arwen Evenstar, an elf princess, in the story that has evolved from a single feature film to a trilogy. Web sites have popped up all over the Internet for fans of these films and their cast of characters. One site that offers fans a trivia quiz is The Lord of the Rings Character Quiz located at http://www.zovakware.com/tests/lordofthe... Most recently Tyler has starred with Jennifer Lopez in 2004’s Jersey Girl. But in 2004, Tyler’s private life took center stage, as she and husband, Royston Langdon, welcomed their first child. Milo William Langdon was born in Manhattan on December 14, 2004. (Tyler met rocker and lead singer of The Quick, Royston Langdon, in 1998 and the two were married in 2001.) More information on Langdon’s career can be found on his web site, http://www.roydie.com, and on The Quick’s tour schedule at http://www.the-quick.com. Tyler's success provides inspiration for other Mainers who may have dreams and aspiration that seem beyond the realm of possibility. Just like the successful characters of Maine's past, Tyler set her mind to be an actress. To date, she has achieved celebrity and with her fellow cast members from The Lord of the Rings Tyler was nominated for Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture by the Screen Actors Guild.
