Fear or lack of fear is learned behavior. If, as children, individuals are allowed to explore, occasionally fall, or to challenge themselves, each person would likely bring this trait into adulthood. If, on the other hand, children are overprotected, never allowed to experience an occasional fall, or never allowed to really think things through for themselves, they automatically hesitate at the first sign of danger or uncertainty, waiting for someone else to reassure, assist, or lead the way.

As the lives of Margaret Chase Smith, Kenneth Roberts and Mary Ellen Chase demonstrate, the characteristics of strength, motivation, and self-confidence are imperative, if one is to lead, create or accomplish great things with the potential each of us is given.
