What Is Your Halloween Tradition?
Attending haunted hay rides: These can be found all over the state for a reasonable admission fee. Exploring cornfield mazes: Many farms create these mazes and donate the proceeds to area charities and causes. Decorating with Halloween themes: Although it is easier to buy, making Halloween decorations is a great family activity. Throwing parties: Children and adults alike can enjoy costume parties filled with contests, treats and games. Shopping for or making costumes: Specialty Halloween shops filled with costumes, decorations, party favors and everything you could imagine to make this holiday especially "ghoulish" pop up all over the place. Making treats: Baking cookies, making candy and baking pies is a fun family activity in preparation for parties or passing out to trick-or-treaters. Attending fairs and festivals: Fall rounds out the year for the ending of the majority of these types of festivities. Decorating pumpkins: Be it for your home decoration or a contest, people are getting more creative with pumpkin decorating every year. Some families, however, choose to partake in different activities during this time of year. This could be for a variety of reasons like religious backgrounds and beliefs, for example. Some of these events include: Attending church events: Many area churches will throw a fall festival for both their congregation and the community members. This is a very positive alternative for parents who don't believe in the celebration of Halloween, but at the same time, don't want their children to feel left out. Picking apples in an orchard: This event can be carried far beyond the trip to the orchard. The whole family can participate in creating apple treats, apple crafts and baking with apples. The best part is that the trips to the orchard and related activities are not limited to just one day or a specific weekend. Decorating with fall themes: Dried corn stalks, bales of hay, scarecrows and pumpkins are among the few fall decorations you'll see adorning community properties. Throwing fall celebrations: Bring in the new season with a celebration of the upcoming months with one last cookout or related event.
