Have you ever gone into a store with rocks or cystals for sale? Maybe you went over to look at a bunch if crystals in a basket. If you touched them perhaps one stood out as one that you liked but it wasn't as pretty or as clear as the others... maybe it was a duller tone or bland in comparison to most. This might have seemed strange but it happens pretty regularly to people that are sensitive to energies. To learn how to differentiate between what looks nice and what "feels" nice just takes a little practice.
The reason that a certain stone 'speaks' to you is because they have personalities and impressions just as we do. One stone might be fantastic for one person and horrible for another and 3 of the same type of stones might have three different energies. So, crystals in general might be used for healing, cleansing or protection but each crystal has it's own preference and strengths, finding them and understanding them is key to a happy 'relationship' with the stone. Personal objects also have energies and impressions. Remember the age old adage, "look but don't touch"? This is not only true in every day life, it is even more true in the spiritual world. Some people will approach a person wearing a talisman, stone etc. and they will touch it right off. This is not appreciated by most in the spritual community because this leaves a "ethereal finger print", for lack of a better term, on the piece. After being touched the piece may need to be cleansed, (we'll discuss that process in the next article). What belongs to someone and is worn be them, (especially), starts to carry their energy. So, if went into an antiques store and saw a beautiful Victorian chair I might love it from the window. As I approached it I might be less impressed and, if I sat in it I might really dislike it, not because it was poorly made or worn but because whoever owned it previously had a personality that didn't "jive" well with me, (I know horrible term but it fits. ;) This doesn't mean that the person was "evil", it just means that they have a different temperment and personality. Sometimes this extra sense can be a pain because things that we might love to look at are no good for us to own. If someone tries to deny this and, say, buy a chair that feels all wrong they will probably never sit in it or they might use it for storage to cover up it's energy.
