My husband and I looked at a house recently that was for sale because it's owner had passed on. I have never lived in a house, at least since I remember, that anyone has died in before. This posed a question to me, "What would that be like?". I am territorial myself and would probably bash heads with someone that was still hanging around but wanted things to remain 'theirs' and I have had friends with that problem.
It is no secret that, because of this, many ghosts either start acting up when work on the house and changes are made or they leave until it's finished. That at least 'seems' to be the way it goes. I used to live in a dorm that was a hotel in it's previous life and, from what I was told, it was a fairly questionable one... rooms by the hour if you get my hint. People claimed that it was haunted by prostitutes that had been killed there etc.. I didn't have any serious run ins with any of those, if there were any at all, but the basement had a feeling all it's own, as did one wing of the dorm. I never sensed anything specific in those areas but just a general nastiness that made me want to go elsewhere. My father built the house I was raised in for most of my life and the energy has always been good. I think there was something there but not a haunting ghost type, more like my spirit guide. My husband, however, used to work at an old inn in Jackson, NH that was claimed to be haunted by 'a lady in red' and a few old workers that lived there, as well as worked there, and passed over but never realized it. My husband used to be the first chef to go in for the day... he would go in at 4 or 5am. The next person to come in was his friend, the pastry chef, who came in an hour or so later. More than one morning he called me scared out of his gourd because he thought that his friend had walked by and when he turned to say 'hi' no one was there. He saw a white coat and the person was his friend's height. His friend, and others that worked there, had also run into this very dedicated worker! Even after death he still was cooking!
