However, in the beginning it is a little difficult to tell just what it is in front of you. Some people hear things, like knocking or footsteps, some people smell something strange, others feel cold or see a 'shadow' in their peripheral vision. What I started with was keeping the lights dim and not looking at the 'thing directly on then I started getting a feel for the things size. After that I could get a 'feel' for what sex it was, many things seem male to me possibly because it's a hard thing to figure out. Wanna get a glimpse of a few ghosts to practice with? A few times, in my mind, I would try and speak to the 'thing' and often, I would hear something from them. It's hard to get going but, if something is drawn to you then you might as well try and converse with it. If the 'thing' isn't interested in conversing then, quite possibly, it is not friendly.
Usually if something is what I call a 'watcher', it is something that is sent just for that, watching. I dated a negative man once and we had tons of watchers hanging around because the negative things that he had hanging out with him were afraid that he would teach me how to destroy them, (which he did ;). they are often tall, black, very slender and lanky. They tend to hang out in corners, many times in a crouching position or sometimes up high, (even on buildings... which I dislike very much). They are not all that intelligent and dislike to be spoken to or even noticed.
