Reader's Digest - A guide to a healthy lifestyle

I recently was in the waiting room at an eye doctor's office. As I was waiting for my younger cousin to go through his check up, I picked up an issue of a magazine that is filled with excellent articles on living, education and humor. This magazine is the ever entertaining, informative and well known Reader's Digest. The magazine is loaded with tons of information from health to vocabulary. To back up my opinion on this magazine, I will describe a few elements and departments this magazine covers.

Humor - I start of with humor because it is an outstanding element in Reader's Digest. It enlightens a magazine that otherwise would be filled with facts and tips on living.

Humor in Uniform - This hilarious department is full of stories that are enriched with humor. But what makes this department unique and surprising is that it is all about funny military humor. From funny drill sergeants to brave lieutenants this department is guaranteed to delight your day and find that laugh inside of you.

Laughter, the Best Medicine - This department is also made up of funny stories, but this time it isn't about military mishaps. It's about funny mishaps in people's lives. This column is once again guaranteed to make you laugh. Check it out. I bet you will never get bored.

Education - This magazine also contains an educational element with its vocabulary words and history.

Only In America - This department contains a history lesson whether it is nature, politics, or world history. The best description I believe could best describe its contents is the exact description Reader's Digest has supplied and that is: "Ideas, trends, and interesting bits from all over." And interesting it is. Just like the humor sections, this department is sure to keep your interest and to make you say, 'wow, I've actually learned something today.'

Word Power - This department is not just a department, but an educational tool. It doesn't just give you a word and its meaning, it goes as far as to quiz you then give you the meaning. But be warned that it does carry a humorous element, for the words are sometimes phrases and idioms, but all in all it is a fun and funny way to learn the power of words. I would go as far as to recommend this to teachers as a fun and funny extra to add to the school's extravagant curriculum.
