New Press attitude
It seems that a profit goes a long way towards success, with both the Washington Times, and PCWeek admitting that Apple isn't dying, in fact it is in Come Back mode, and it seems that, on reflection, Eliminating Clones was a good idea as well. Who says money doesn't talk? Things to look out for this week It seems that the rumour mills are spinning again, and the new rumours put Friday down as a big day at Apple as far as Education is concerned, according to MacOS Rumours. They are expecting Jobs to announce something big, like the new Educational Apple Store. Maybe some educationally significant new Apple Products or Rhapsody OS announcements. Lets not just blame MacOS Rumours for these rumours though. News.com is running its own version of the Price cuts story, a similar story is in PCWeek, even Australia's Sydney Morning Herald is getting into the act (at least they spell out the fact that Apple won't comment on any product not shipping, and the implied reference that all facts are rumours only). Basically these stories all agree that Apple is planning speed bumped versions of the Power Mac G3's (up to 300MHz), as well as new models (yes, in the plural) of its PowerBook range, hopefully replacing all current models with just one multi-configurable model (remember this is all rumour). Also they seem to agree that Apple is going to introduce a new G3 based server, some seem to think originally for the Education Market. There is also some solid sounding evidence for the introduction of DVD equipped Macs being introduced (now that MacOS 8.1 can access these disks). Rhapsody DR2 soon According to various sites around the web, Apple is all set to release a new Developers Release of their highly anticipated Rhapsody operating system. This latest release is supposed to be based on the "Titan" version shown at the recent MacWorld. Those of you that are in Apple developers program should start checking your mail boxes for the new CD, while the rest of us can fire up our browsers, and wait for the inevitable flood of "user experience" reports on Rhapsody DR2 as soon as it hits the streets.
