It's getting close to Christmas, so I thought I'd give people a quick whip around the Mac Games sites of the present so they can choose that perfect present for themselves, err . . . loved ones. When you are looking for information on Mac gaming, you will find plenty of sites on the Web catering specifically for the Mac game market. Some of the better known sites are The Mac Gamer's Ledge, Tikkabik and Inside Mac Games Magazine. In addition to these sites are the lesser known sites such as Mac Game Planet and sites catering to those outside the U.S. such as the Swedish Mac Game Gate. These sites are all similar in that they offer Mac gaming news, usually updated daily or nearly daily. Reviews of games, links to download freeware, shareware and demo games. Each of these sites differ slightly in other associated sections, such as The Mac Gamer's Ledge's list of future releases with approximate dates, and Tikkabik's special section on 3D Accelerated Games. In this general category fall the big Macintosh magazines, especially MacAddict, which is really big on games. These are all sites from which to start your surfing, as these sites maintain links to game production companies, fan sites for particular games and other sites to do with gaming. In addition to these general Mac gaming sites are specialised sites dealing with a particular aspect of Mac gaming, such as Networkable Mac Games, 68K Mac Games or games released on Hybrid CD's. These are sites dedicated to helping you with the nitty gritty of gaming. Networkable Mac Games has sections on how to set up the hardware and software of the Mac (and Wintel PC's) so that you can play network games. It's a Listing of Networkable Mac Games including what networks they work on, short games synopsis and hardware requirements and Games Performance Tuning. Networkable Mac Games has other sections as well such as Accelerate System 8. It's a good general reference site for the Macintosh to keep handy. 68K Mac Games is a site dedicated to providing information on games for old style Macintosh computers (like mine). Games being the hardware hogs they are, they usually require the latest and greatest in terms of hardware, but a surprising number will run quite acceptably on older Macs, even new release games like Civilisation II, Duke Nuk'em 3D and Settlers II all run on these older Macs, as well as lots of the new shareware games. 68K Mac Games keeps track of the games available for these Macs, as well as links to download sites for the games. Hybrid CD Overview is a site dedicated to listing those CD's that Go To Page: 1 2
