Special Deals
Deal Macs is a site that lists special prices for Mac related products found around the web. It varies from day to day what products are listed, but is worth a look if you are in the market for a specific product. Deal Mac also list rumours of price cuts and such, so should be checked out to see weather it is worth holding off on a purchase to wait for the price cut. MGL Reader-Exclusive Offers is a special service from Mac Gamers Ledge that offers price cuts for gaming products either through on-line stores or direct from the publisher. They also use this service to occasionally offer games that are not released in America. The EvangeList is a email list run by Apple to highlight the uses of its products (Macintosh and Newton mostly). The list is also a good place to enquire about Mac/Newton solutions for specialised needs. It is also used by companies to announce new products, and to offer special deals. Hardly a day goes by without a EvangeList special offer being announced. Direct from Producer A lot of companies sell their product directly to the user through their web pages, often at substantial discounts. This is a good way to get those hard to find older applications to run on your older machines, or just those games you now have the money to buy, but can no longer find in the stores or catalogues. A lot of computer specific hardware, like accelerators, is best bought from the producer, lets face it, often it can only be bought from the producer. Also direct from the producer allows you to buy product before it is released to the general public, the product is sent out to you before the stores are sent their orders. In the same line, some applications developers use the pre-order market to decide if they are going to port applications to the Mac system (games developers in particular are renown for this). Known (by me) direct to user sellers Bungie, makers of the Marathon trilogy, as well as Weekend Warriors and the soon to be released Myth. These guys really prefer to sell by their web site, and it shows. MacPlay. These people really do use the pre-order sales to decide weather to port a product. If you want a soon to be released game from them, pre-order it and help to make sure that they do indeed port it. They are the people who released the Alone in the dark series, and the descent games, as well as copious others. Go To Page: 1 2
