Ellison no longer wants control of Apple
Ellison last week officially announced that he was no longer interested in a hostile take over of Apple. According to the announcement he said that he had not purchased any stock, nor is he in discussion to do so, but he left the door open for future attempts.

Apple is reconsidering its decision not to port Open Transport to Rhapsody as they have received some heavy lobbying to keep it. The argument goes that while Next has a complete set of networking tools, Open Transport is now easier to use/set up, and is the preferred choice of users. The Yellow box component (ie nextstep API's) will probably be called Concert. The Win95 port of the Concert API's is nearly complete and will probably be shown at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference. This port will allow Concert native applications to be run in Win95/NT with only a recompile (instead of complete rewrite). A Common Hardware Reference Platform (CHRP, also known as Power PC Platform or PPCP) version of the MacOS will ship "by the end of the year". Apple's World Wide Developers Conference Next Week (May 12) Apple will host its World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the San Jose Convention Centre. Apple is expected to display MacOS 8, Rhapsody on PowerPC, Concert on Win95, and all its new hardware. As a sweetener to its participants, it is giving away free a Prelude to Rhapsody package. This is the latest versions of the Openstep and WebObjects development tools with a single user, non commercial license. A Rhapsody Update While we're on the topic of Rhapsody, iv6 got seeded inside Apple this week, According to MacOS Rumours, iv6 is the first release of Rhapsody to get a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and it has been described as "surprisingly useable". The QuickDraw3D development team and others managing to start testing their latest versions within the day. Open Transport 1.2 In more Open Transport news, Open Transport 1.2 will be released as part of MacOS 8. It has bug fixes for more then 40 known bugs, including the "Ping of Death" and other bugs that can cause the Mac to crash. OT1.2 is currently in beta version and Apple is looking for people to help test that its bug fixes actually work. If you are interested Rick Ford has a Open Transport Testing and Updates page.
