Let The Buyer Beware!

A .4 cm loss is noted in the LE patients; there is no measurement for the control group nor a measurement on the opposing limb.

Only 8 of 33 patients consented to an invasive scan. The article hedges on how many patients responded to the treatment, but states that their lymphatic function improved. There are no details given.

Lastly, self-assessment by questionnaire is always based on personal bias and interpretation and is the least effective measuring tool for clinical trials.

A few more questions come to mind - did the PI (principal investigator) receive any funding from the manufacturer? Is there a business or in-kind relationship between them? (Such associations are supposed to be disclosed.)

I am not advocating nor dismissing the above mentioned product. I am simply stating that we, the consumers, must be aware that everything presented in print, on TV or radio is not necessarily the entire packet of information. Info-mercials and ads want to sell products. Of course, they will present the positive aspects of their products and downplay the negative reviews.

I guess my message is to take everything with a grain of salt and do your own research.

Happy Holidays!
