Well, I must admit, I had a wonderful time (and came away more enlightened) when I attended the May 7th "30th Anniversary of Lyme Disease - with No Compassion Observed!" that was sponsored by The Greater Hartford Lyme Disease Support and Action Group Members and The Town of Farmington - Community Services. This Conference was organized to educate and inform the public about Lyme disease and other tick borne illnesses. The guest speakers were Lesley Ann Fein, MD, M.P.H Garth L. Nicholson, Ph.D., Bernard Raxlen, M.D.P.C., Jo Anne Whitaker, MD, Richard Horowitz, MD, Lida H. Mattman, M.S., Ph.D., Richard Horowitz, M.D. and hosted by Randy and Laura Sykes.

There were authors present with their books and volumes of information that they graciously shared with those attending. I finally met up with Tom and Karen Forschner of the Lyme Disease Foundation (LDF), Denise Lang who wrote "Coping With Lyme Disease," and others. Dr. Leslie Fein and the Forschners offered Lyme Disease bracelets for sale. I bought many bracelets to send to my friends who were too ill, from Lyme Disease, to make the trip. I wear my bracelet and it does exactly what the bracelets were intended to do - raise awareness. People stop me and say that they know what the pink and yellow bracelets are for, but want to know why I wear a green one. This opens up a line of communication that is worth more than the $2.00 bracelet fee. If you would like to support Lyme Disease and open the lines of communication with someone, please visit the LDF site.

I went as an author, but American Book Publishers did not have my book, "NCO-No Compassion Observed," ready for the book signing. It will be out shortly and you may inquire at http://www.american-book.com/ to order your copy. I was able to pass out a flyer, a blurb about my book. "After serving this country for over twenty years, we are now holed up in a makeshift bunker smack in the middle of a long forgotten ghost town, and pinching pennies for groceries and medications. Why? The military illegally took our future away with the stroke of a pen, because of Lyme Disease. Did we complain? You bet. Did we provide documentation of their illegal actions? Affirmative. Did we find resolution? Not on your life.

This story is about the most difficult decision a soldier has to make -- his career or his wife's life. It's about the courage of our family, who believes enough in the truth, justice, and the American way, to confront the integrity of the United States Army in order to preserve those same values. We took a stance -- one that literally brought us to our knees.
