Is There a Cure?

T'was the night before Christmas and all were asleep, the stockings were hung and the house was all neat. Tomorrow morning there would be lots of toys and candy, awaiting sweet little Susie and her big brother Andy.

A doll and a truck were the dreams they picked, no notice was taken of the little brown tick. It crawled out of a pocket and over the floors, taking its time, in spite of their snores.

A meal was waiting for the hungry tick and in a few days, Andy would be sick. The doc would say he has the flu, If only the doc knew what the tick knew.

The tick would give birth to a very large brood, they would move in, now that's rather rude! Susie would know well of her brother's ills, for she, too would get sick and take the same pills.

They were too tired to play outside anymore, their fevers raged and their joints were sore. Their parents were worried, running from doc to doc, getting various diagnosis of a disease that mocked.

First it was a flu and then it was chronic fatigue, that kept Susie from dance and Andy from little league. One doc said it was ALS and to stay in their beds, while another said it was all in their heads.

Susie and Andy were living a hell, and their parents were going broke to get them well. The last doc ordered a couple of IVs, and said they would just have to wait and see.

To everyone's surprise and genuine delight, Susie improved after only a few nights. She was soon feeling as fit as any fiddle, and was even up for a little laugh and giggle.

Andy wasn't responding as they had planned, and the symptoms got worse, and soon out of hand. The disease just wouldn't go away or behave, and a few months later, Andy was in a grave.

Susie had lost a brother and her parents, their son, their life was empty now with very little fun. If only the doc had known why he was sick all of the time, but nobody would ever know now that it was Lyme.

So before you place that gift under the tree, do something nice for Andy and me. Take time to get tested and never give in, for to get treatment early is the only way to win. author~ Sue Vogan A reader asked me to address what happens after the doctor pronounces you "cured." Now, most of us Lymers have been through the miracle-cured stage with a treating physician, only to relapse a short time later. It happens all too often and there are various reasons, but the ones I am most familiar with are the "god complex" and the "no time for education mire."
