Promises...Promises.

Promises...Promises.

Is there an absolute cure for Lyme disease? No, not at this time. If there was, you can bet every major pharmaceutical company would have it on the market and have a full blown advertising campaign going. You would know about it....all about it....trust me.

What is available to long time sufferers of Lyme disease is promises of miracle cures, magic supplements, ancient remedy compounds, wonder treatment with gadgets and gizmos invented and used by a self-proclaimed specialist. The brochures, newsletters and advertisements will have testimonials from those who were "cured" and give their names and city and state and often a photo to convince you. And they are very convincing. Now, if only you could verify each individual's testimony and know how reliable each of them are. But the promoter relies on the fact that you are desperate for a cure....therefore gullible.

Most supplements touted to cure Lyme disease, herbs and compounds included, are not regulated by the FDA and therefore the manufacturers don't have to provide proof of safety or effectiveness. That means no tests or long term studies have been done. Often this leads to too much of a specific trace element for your body and that can cause serious problems that can negatively effect major organs.

I know personally of a powdered nutritional supplement, advertised on slick brochures to change body chemistry and stimulate the immune system and prevent and cure related diseases and conditions. Nothing in the supplement is harmful separately in a regulated amount, however, the amount of each ingredient isn't noted on the label, only the suggested amount of the product to use daily. Several Lyme sufferers bought this after listening to a pitch at, of all places, a Lyme disease support group meeting. Yes, they felt revitalized for a few days after taking it as a morning drink, but that changed within two weeks.

One passed out and stopped breathing, fortunately she was not alone and CPR was administered. Another was taken by paramedics to an emergency room after his heart started racing and he had a difficult time breathing. A third had a seizure. Is there any way to know what ingredient affected each person...no. Only that something or some combination of ingredients changed their body chemistry...the body chemistry created by the Lyme disease infection....to cause the disastrous results.

The safest supportive treatment of Lyme disease is a healthy diet, daily exercise, physical therapy and RDA approved vitamin/mineral supplements along with antibiotics. Some people have had positive results with homeopathy provided by a competent doctor. These are your choices. There is no magic cure.
