Downtown restaurants cater to hearty appetites. Many have shaded patio type seating. "Raw bars" feature oysters, crab, clams, conch and fresh fish. You must try conch fresh in salad, fried or in chowder to enjoy the real flavor of Key West. I especially liked the Conch Republic Seafood Company or Beach Bar and Grille. For more upscale dining you might try Pier House. Don't miss Key Lime pie either!

Bring a sweater for cool evenings. Tropic rain storms sometimes last 5 to 10 minutes. Locals don't seem to mind the short rain spell; they just seek shelter in bars or continue walking on the streets.

Most visits match up with a seasonal attraction. Old Island Days Art Festival, Fantasy Fest which comes to life with colorful and unique Halloween costumes, Conch Republic Celebration which is held every April and Hemingway Days Festival, The Key West Summer Food & Wine Festival, The Seaport Music Festival are a few of the ongoing celebrations. There's a decent golf course if you can keep your eyes off the scenery. For those who like theater, The Waterfront Playhouse offers a variety of live entertainment. For those who like to walk for ninety minutes in the evening, you might enjoy the Ghosts & Legends of the Key West Tour.

Fishing With Papa's Ghost:

The wonderful fishing offshore for bill and bottom fish competes with inshore action out of skiffs for bonefish and tarpon. Hundreds of miles of sand flats and reefs hold all sorts of other fish anxious to bite on light tackle. However, a charter or day boat for offshore fishing or a flats guide is recommended. You need special gear for offshore billfish; fish over wrecks and you catch more fish.

Besides, tropical fish like barracuda have very sharp teeth and species like Surgeonfish have sharp spines in odd places. A few tropical fish are not edible at certain times of the year or caught from certain spots as well. Most important, guides get you on more fish and keep you out of trouble.

Other attractions include glass bottom boat tours, Catamarans snorkel tours not to mention the Sunset Sailing and Private Charters to view the sunset. Beside the usual Snuba and Scuba snorkel tours of the local waters you also have a swim and snorkel tour with the Dolphins. You'll find many options available. The only problem is fitting everything into a short stay. Whatever your pleasure is, you will always remember Key West!
