Hoh, Jr. Songs to use with this series: DAY ONELesson One: The First Commandment You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:4-6) My heavenly Father holds me in such high esteem that he wants to be my only God. Characters in this lesson: Job, the Rich Young Man Lessons: book of Job; Matthew 19:16-30, Mark 10:17 Job was a wealthy man. How wealthy? He had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen (1000 oxen assuming each yoke was a pair), five hundred donkeys, and many servants. He also had seven sons and three daughters which he loved dearly. He loved his sons and daughters so much he made sacrifices for them. But Job loved someone even more than all his animals, all his possessions, and all his children. He loved God even more! But how much did Job love God? Satan believed Job loved God because God gave Job so many things, all the sheep and donkeys and cows and camels. He told God, "Take away his possessions and surely Job will curse you." So God allowed Satan to take away Job's possessions. Satan was not allowed to touch Job or hurt Job in any way. But Job, despite losing all his children and all his animals all in one day, did NOT curse God. In fact, he said, "God gives and God takes away-blessed be God's name." Satan wasn't convinced. "Surely anyone can love God when there is no personal hardship." So God allowed to inflict a disease on Job. But Satan wasn't allowed to take his life. But Job never doubted Job or cursed God. Oh, Job wanted to speak with God and plead his innocence. And Job curse his birthday, wishing he hadn't been born. But Job never cursed Job. After Satan was defeated, God gave Job all these things: fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen (2000 oxen assuming each yoke was a pair), and a thousand donkeys.
